Add a slicer comparison

Contents[Hide]

1. Overview

This walkthrough shows you how to add a slicer comparison. A slicer comparison lets you compare measure values against a specified filter value.

2. Walkthrough

A slicer comparison measure can be added to any metric set having a measure, a hierarchy and a slicer to filter the value by.

This example starts with a new metric set.

Tip
The steps detailed in this article are similar when editing a metric set on a dashboard or any another view.

2.1. Create a metric set

From the main menu, click New and click Metric Set.

Add a measure and a hierarchy. In our example, we dragged the Year level of a time dimension hierarchy and dragged it to Rows (Data Points). We also chose to re-visualize to a bar chart.

Filter the OrderDate hierarchy as needed. In this example, we chose not to filter this hierarchy and left it as All.

2.2. Add a slicer

Add a hierarchy under Slicers. In this example we dragged the Product hierarchy under Slicers.

2.3. Add a slicer comparison

The slicer comparison adds a parallel measure to the metric set and visualization, which displays values based on the specified parameters.

On the toolbar, click Add Slicer Comparison.

In the Slicer Comparison dialog, select the Measure and Slicer Hierarchy that you want to use to create the slicer measure.

Specify a Default Parameter Value. In this example, Accessories and Bikes are selected. Click Submit.

Provide a name for the parallel slicer measure. This is used for the new measure added to the metric set (if you want to auto generate a name, leave the field blank).

Click Submit.

A new slicer measure is added to the metric set and can be seen in the Data Analysis Panel. The visualization is updated to show the newly added slicer measure for comparison.

3. Add a filter for comparison

When using this metric set on a dashboard or any other view, you can manually add a filter and connect it to the parallel slicer to change the value while viewing.

Tip
If you are editing the metric set on a dashboard, when creating the slicer comparison, you can use the Automatically Add Parameter Control option in the Slicer Comparison dialog, to automatically add a filter to change the parallel slicer measure value while viewing.
