Dundas Dashboard: Additional Controls
State Indicator
State indicators are highly effective visual tools that can be activated once the data reaches a single or multiple thresholds. For example, when tracking stocks, a default marker could be a green element, but if the stock dips below a certain value, the element turns red. They can also appear as animated traffic lights, "thumbs up/down" images, a light on a console, text that says "danger," etc. With Dundas Dashboard, users can thoroughly customize their state indicators and build them into scorecards, charts and more. They can also be used on their own, without being embedded into another data visualization control for added flexibility.
Dundas offers a range-type of state indicator, where the user defines from-to ranges on the number line along with an appearance setting that is shown if the value falls within a given range.
Several types of visuals are available right out of the box:
- Markers - similar to electronic LEDs, they come in a variety of shapes, sizes and are heavily styled. The style of the marker can change based on the state of the value property.
- Images - use any image loaded from a file or URL.
- Text - the content can be changed, as well as colored and sized, based on the current state
- Custom - all of the above visualizations come from a base appearance class which is a content presenter. If you want to build your own, you can create your own custom implementation or simply change the value in the "content" property.
Legend
When building software components, legends are often neglected - but not with Dundas Dashboard. We recognize the importance of ensuring you can clearly decipher your data and legends are an important part of that process.
The Dundas Dashboard Legend is designed to work with and support any of the data visualization controls (chart, gauge, etc). Highlights include its ability to toggle the visibility of a chart series, gauge pointer - or any other control element that appears on the legend - by simply clicking on a checkbox beside the legend item. The legend also has the capacity to group items into categories separated by titles. Other features include scrollbars, for when there is not enough space for the legend items, as well as the ability to add a custom legend items that are not tied to controls and allow you to specify your own marker color, shape and text. In addition, legend items:
- Legend items from multiple charts and gauges can all be added to a single legend
- Can be organized horizontally, vertically or in a table
- Can be added by controls automatically or be added manually in the dashboard designer
- Identical legend items can be merged into a single legend item (even if they are from different
charts/gauges)
- Third-party controls can also make use of the legend (the API makes this possible)
Grid
There are instances when you don't want your data to be displayed graphically, but would prefer to see your raw data in numerical/textual form. This is common in dashboarding and it's where the feature-rich Silverlight grid control comes in handy. Along with styling (e.g., colors to fit the theme of your dashboard), Silverlight's grid offers:
- Auto-sizing
- Data sorting and filtering
- Column reordering and resizing
- Column freezing
- Animation
- Grouping
- Paging
- And more!
Additional Component Support
Once you've designed your dashboard to display the data that matters to you most, why not dress it up a bit? Dundas Dashboard provides miscellaneous.
