Using the home screen
The Dundas BI home screen appears by default whenever you log in. This is the launching point for all of the things you can do in Dundas BI, which consists of a main menu on the left, followed by an assortment of items that you can click or tap to get started.
2. Main menu
On the left side of the screen, you will find the main menu of Dundas BI, which lets you switch projects, create new items, open existing work, edit your user profile, or access administrative functions. This menu will remain even after you leave the home screen.
3. Default home screen
The available items in your home screen will be different depending on your licensed Seat type and the existing views you can access. For example, when accessing an empty instance (where nothing has been created yet), you will see an assortment of action tiles.
From the default home screen, one of the first things you will probably want to do is explore data. Click the Explore Data tile or button, and it will open either the Metric Set Designer for power users or the Dashboard Designer for standard users.
As soon as there are views you can access, such as dashboards or reports (this includes the Getting Started with Dundas BI project), tiles will present the available views. The action options will still be available on the left.
The tiles on the home screen are organized by folder. As you scroll through, the toolbar breadcrumbs reflect the path for the folder being viewed. Click a folder in the path to scroll up to it or the closest folder containing views.
Initially the view tiles will be blue and simply present the name of the view; however, when the view is checked in, a thumbnail of the view is generated and shown on the corresponding tile.
3.2. List mode
You can change from the default tile mode to a list mode for presenting the available view. When shown as a list, each row will include the Created by, Created date, and Modified date information for the particular view.
Press the list and tile icons at the top right to switch between the two modes.
3.3. Search and filter
By default, the home screen shows all of the views accessible for the user. To limit the views to a specific project, click the Projects element at the top right of the home screen and select the project.
You can further limit the views shown using the search field on the left side of the toolbar.
4. Customize the home screen
If you do not want all of the accessible views to appear on the home screen, you have the option of customizing it with your select items. You can think of these items as tiles or shortcuts to your content, which you can arrange as desired on the home screen.
To start, click Customize Home from the default home screen.
A different version of the home screen appears with a toolbar at the top and a set of items (tiles) corresponding to content you have already created.
Click Customize from the toolbar to begin customizing this home screen.
While you are in customization mode, the Customize button appears shaded in color. Once you are done with all of the customizations, click this button again to exit customization mode.
4.1. Reorder items
To change the order of an item, drag the item and drop it over a second item while in customization mode. Your item will be positioned in front of the second item.
4.2. Add an item
To add an item to your home screen, click Add Item while in customization mode.
In the Open File dialog, select an item to add to your home screen, and then click Submit.
4.3. Remove a single item
While in customization mode, you can remove an item by clicking the (X) in the top-right corner. This does not delete the item; it just removes it from the home screen. You can add it back using Add Item.
4.4. Remove all items
If you find that your home screen has too many items (tiles) to start with, you can clear out all of the items first by clicking Remove All Items from the toolbar.
4.5. Navigate to the default home screen
If you want to navigate to the default home screen and show no views, you can use a specific URL. Simply append /HomeNoContent to your Home URL, for example:
4.6. Reset the home screen
If you want to discard the customizations you have made to your home screen, click Reset All Customization from the toolbar. This will reset all the customizations and return you to the default home screen.
4.7. Set default view
As an alternative to customizing the tiles/items shown on the home page, you can choose not to show the home page and indicate a view as your landing page.
Click Set Default View on the toolbar and follow the instructions in the article Edit your profile and change your password.
