Whoops, accidents happen…

It’s happened to you, it’s happened to me, it’s happened to everyone we know. It’s happened before and chances are it’ll happen again. It may have even happened today. There is nothing of absolute certainty in this world, except for death, taxes, and accidentally deleting something you really shouldn’t have deleted. Even writing that makes me shudder. One marginal misstep, one excited keyboard tap too many, and just like that –snap– a days-worth of work is gone; up in the air like a puff of smoke. It’s a tale as old as time. You’ve accidentally deleted all your work, lost a considerable amount of time and effort, and have been forced to retrace your steps and recreate all that was erased. What an atrocity!

To err is human, to undo, divine!

Well, those days are gone! With Dundas BI, we’ve made it so you’re able to quickly recover your lost work, negating those inscrutable lapses of concentration. Rather than lament over bygone work you’ll never recapture, simply open the Recycle Bin. Within the Recycle Bin, is a list of all the elements you’ve accidentally deleted (such as files and folders). These elements can easily be restored from directly within the Recycle Bin or permanently deleted depending on your preference.

And there you have it! With a few clicks, you’ll be able to re-open the dashboard or report or element you inadvertently deleted and can pick up where you left off, and no one will be the wiser. In addition to saving your shirts from having to deal with stress sweat, the Recycle Bin also assists in speeding up the development process, particularly in environments where multiple developers are working together. More often than not, when cleaning up the environment we see developers overriding their colleagues' changes and deleting items they themselves don’t believe to be useful or necessary (when in fact they may very well be!).

It’s important to note that items in the Recycle Bin will be permanently deleted automatically after a set amount of time, which is configurable by your Dundas BI administrator.

Never miss an update again

While on the topic of integration, collaboration, and administration, it’s only fair we include another feature which will help you deploy and easily maintain Dundas BI together with your business processes. Yup, we’re packing two updates into this little blog! This next one is something all Dundas BI administrators will appreciate. Dundas Data Visualization has a history of rapid product enhancements; we release 1 major revision every year, and supplement those with at least 5 minor revisions, much of which are driven by our customers’ requests. So, to ensure you’re always kept abreast of the latest and greatest features, as of Dundas BI version 6, you’ll receive notifications directly within the software whenever there’s a new version available! What’s great, is that this applies to all types of versions, including simple revisions (not just minor and major releases). Administrators will receive a notification, which they can promptly acknowledge and upgrade their environment to the last version. Or, if they’d prefer to not upgrade, they’re able to dismiss the notification and the next time there is a new version, upgrade at that time.

Conclusion

Hey, who said every new feature had to be flashy? Sure, these features may not be as electrifying as those that typically come down the pike, but there’s something to be said about the small things that simply make your life easier. These upgrades will unequivocally have a noticeable and positive impact on your Dundas BI experience, and we’re excited for you to have the opportunity to test them out. And if you still haven’t downloaded Dundas BI, you can do so here, today!
