The MSBI Stack

The MSBI stack typically consists of three layers. The data layer is where data is stored, the analytics layer is where data is turned into information through various types of processes, and the presentation layer is how analyzed information is delivered to end-users. Dundas Dashboard integrates well with all three layers of the MSBI stack.

The MSBI Data Layer

Dundas Dashboard allows for easy connection to the data storage technologies provided by Microsoft. In particular, our dashboard natively supports connection to:

• SQL Azure
• Excel
• MS SQL (or any other technology that uses MS SQL as a backend, such as Dynamics CRM)
• SharePoint Lists
• MS Access
• MS Access
• Visual FoxPro

The MSBI Analytics Layer

Integrate with Microsoft products that help turn data into information so you don’t have to redo your analyses, for example:

• OLAP KPIs and calculated measures
• Processed data created in PowerPivot/Excel

The MSBI Presentation Layer

Dundas Dashboard complements the presentation technologies Microsoft provides. Specifically, you can:

• Embed performance dashboards within MS SharePoint (if you use SharePoint as your corporate portal)  
• Use PowerPivot to manipulate and analyze the data, save it in SharePoint, and then connect to it using Dundas Dashboard so you can view the analysis in a visual manner
• Link detailed SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) reports from your dashboards so that business users can see both views easily
• Export the data presented in a dashboard to Excel to perform further analysis on that raw data
